JANUARY 02” – NEWSLETTER

WHAT'S NEW: We have added a new boat this year, a 26 ft. Southwester which Capt. Shaun personally built during the slower months of Sept./Oct. (and it floats!!!)

HOW’S FISHING: Offshore has been hot with King Mackerel, some as large as 40 lbs.  The Black Grouper were hitting well and some real large snapper on a recent night trip.  Backwater the Pompano have been hot this month in the passes.  The mangroves have been producing some Snook and a few Red Fish with lots of Snapper.

JANUARY FISHING: The waters cool down and the fish move around a lot.  Offshore King Mackerel are out far and Snapper and Grouper over bottom and wrecks.  Closer in Sheepshead and Trigger fish on artificial reefs near the coast.  Backwater large Sheepshead in the holes and around docks.  Pompano and some Trout around the passes and shoals, some Snook way back in the shallows. DECENT ACTION!!!

FISH STORIES:  In the beginning of December we were fishing way back in, so far back that we had a gator swimming along side the boat.  When all of a sudden a customer hooks in to a small (15 lb) Tarpon behind the boat.  Off goes the gator after the fish, just as the gator got there the Tarpon jumped and spit the hook.

CATCH OF THE MONTH:  40 lb Cobia by Tim Brown in the pass on 12 lb test while fishing for Pompano, Also, Capt. Tim himself was caught on a 3/8 oz pink bucktail jig.
(240 lbs on 12 lb test!)
