FEBRUARY” –

CHECK
OUT THE RECIPE OF THE MONTH
WHATS
NEW: Tricia
will be answering the phones and scheduling trips full
time now, giving me more time with the customers and
fishing. Also, we have a new mascot our 6 week old yellow Labrador
retriever named “Kinja.”
HOW’S
FISHING: The
weather has been record lows to record highs the beginning
of January.
One morning we left the dock at 8am and the temp.
was 37 degrees.
The customers were determined to fish that day.
At times I couldn’t tell if they were getting
hits or just shivering and shaking the pole. Believe it or
not the fishing wasn’t bad and we even caught some
redfish.
Water temp. got down to 57 degrees. Then the
weather just kept getting warmer and by the beginning of
February it was mid to upper 80’s and water temp. 76
degrees.
Two days later a cold front came through and water
temp. went to 66.
January and February weather is very unpredictable!
Backwater
catches are Snook, scattered Redfish, lots of Pompano,
some trout and sheepshead. Offshore, Snapper and Grouper.
Catching some amberjack way out and a few scattered
Cobia.
King fish should be showing up soon (hopefully).
I’ve got a tournament Feb. 22.
Last year we had to run south, close to the keys
because of the cold water.
Spanish mackerel show up sporadically near the
coast.MARCH FISHING: The
weather starts getting better.
There may be some early Tarpon, usually lots of King
Mackerel offshore, Pompano and Trout around the shoals and grass
flats.
FISH
STORIES: Last
August I was cruising in from offshore when I suddenly hit
something. I looked
back and a huge bloody tail came up out of the water. We estimated the shark at about 15 ft. plus! CATCH
OF THE MONTH: Has
got to go to another Captain, Randy Hamilton who hooked and
fought a Sailfish for 30 minutes before losing it.
This is very rare. Maybe
twice a year someone lucks into a Sailfish in this area of
Florida.
