MARCH –
NEWSLETTER
'WHAT'S
NEW: We have a
new captain with us, Capt. Dan Maruszczak. Dan is originally from the New England area and has been in
the Naples and Marco Island area off and on for about 8
years.
HOW’S
FISHING:
Just when you think that spring is right around the
corner that horrible cold winter wind starts blowing.
So far March has been cold and windy, but there is
hope, spring is right around the corner. April, May and June are the best months of the year in this
area. The
weather is perfect and the fishing is unbelievable!
Lately, however catches have been a mixed bag.
Backwater
catches are Small Tarpon and Snook, a few Redfish, Trout
and Pompano on the flats and Sheepshead.
Offshore,
Snapper and Grouper.
Some King Mackerel and Bonita when it’s not to
rough.
APRIL
FISHING: The
beginning of Spring!
Everything starts getting good.
Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout, Shark, Permit, Cobia
and Pompano
FISH
STORIES: Last
week I participated in the King Mackerel Tournament.
This is the 2 day tournament so the
first day we headed south about 65 miles fishing some
shrimp boats. The
weather got rough and some unsuspected storms blew in with
12 ft. seas and 35-40 mph winds.
We eventually made it back a few hours late and a
1/2 inch shorter. Day
2: Heading
out we heard a Mayday (distress signal) and three miles
back we located the boat. Both passengers were fine, the boat on the other hand would
need a lot of work. After
transferring the guys and gear to a sheriffs boat we went
fishing. That afternoon we weighed in a 21.5 pounder.
1 of only 7 fish weighed in the second day.
There are 3 more tournaments left this month.
CATCH
OF THE MONTH:
The winning fish in the SKA Tournament was a 51 lb.
King Mackerel, the
largest ever caught around here.
